I don't care if this woman was being real good to you, and went out of her way. You just don't do that to people. You don't tell them a price and say that you can have cats (which is a HUGE factor in picking a apartment/place to live right?) and then turn around and up the rent AND change to a no pet policy, and just as you're move in! That is not right.
Plus, I get that she was burned before by previous tenants. But it got to that point because she probably was doing yearly/6-month/3-month inspections to make sure no drug operations were occurring and to make of no damage was being done. (I live in BC Canada. It's a common practice here that landlords do unscheduled yearly or 6 to 3 month inspections to make sure nothing illegal is happening on their property. *shrugs* Well it is BC, it seems like everyone and their neighbour has a grow op ;) ) So I don't think she should be taking it out on future tenants.
I guess your story hit a nerve with me because my sister is going through some BS with finding a place in VIctoria. I just don't understand people sometimes. It's so bloody frustrating.
