I have been writing a fantasy story since the beginning of March. It started when I was playing an online game called The Dragon Cave. The site was having server problems and the game slowed down horribly. So as part of the game, I started making up little scenarios to relieve the boredom while waiting for the server to respond to my requests.
Some of my fellow game players seemed to enjoy my little writings and one thing led to another and a full blow story emerged. With characters, motivations, dragons, magic and adult themes.
It is one thing to write a story to share with strangers, because they don't know who you are and you will probably never meet them face to face. It is entirely another thing to share them with your friends and loved ones. People whom you know, love and care about.
This is why I haven't shared the story on my journal. Probably because this is my first real attempt at writing anything since my college days. I don't know if my story is any good or not. I think it is, but then it is my creation and I am way too close to the subject. And I am feeling very insecure. I want people to like this story. I am bracing myself in case no one does. This is a difficult thing for me to do.
If any of my friends here would like to read my writings, I have set up a community where I post my writings on a daily basis. You can either get each entry sent to your journal as I post them, or you can subscribe as a viewer and go to the community whenever you feel like it. Or you don't have to look or read it at all. Whatever you choose is fine with me. But start reading on page one, just like a book.
http://community.livejournal.com/freedonia_story/ Please remember this is fantasy fiction. It occasionally ventures into adult themes, but I have kept those toned down a lot. I think they are no worse than your afternoon television soap operas. Believe me, writing a sex scene using only euphemisms is very difficult, but on the other hand, I don't want to write porn.
Also, the first pages are not very good, because they weren't written initially to be a whole story, so I hope that you will forgive them. When I am ready, I will re-write them to fit better with the rest of the story.
