Well, I'm not getting worse.

I seem to end up doing a lot of family photos this time of year -- taking them, specifically, usually for families who either go to my school or used to go to my school. So I have the benefit of at least having met the kids before.

Technically, this is my forth year of doing this sort of thing. The first year, I took photos of a newborn baby ( which came out lovely ) and her family ( which came out... not bad, but I wanted better. I never got a good shot of the entire family, just bits and pieces ).

The next year, I just sort of did my nieces and nephews, and engagement photos for a girl at work. The engagement photos actually turned out really nice -- looking back, I probably should've gotten paid more, but it was an experiment, and I charge less for experiments =D

Last year I did two families. Again, I'm great at taking photos of the kids, or mom and a kid, or dad and a kid, but I never feel like my shots of the entire family are quite as good. The bigger the family, the less "Great" I feel like the photos are. They're not... bad, but I can't for the life of me figure out a way to get the kids + cousins + aunt/uncle + parents + grandparents all in one photo looking great.

And honestly, I hate shooting adults when they know you're shooting. Very few adults are comfy in front of a camera, so unless they're busy doing something else they look... awkward, almost always.

This year, I've got 3-5 families that want photos. I've done two already ( actually just did one this morning. Again, great shots of kids. Not-bad shots of family ), am doing one tomorrow, have someone trying to get one for next Saturday, and have one more that wants to schedule. The nice thing about these is Yay, money! The bad thing about these is Ugh, no free time!

And, y'know, stress. But the parents actually thought I was fabulous today ( I will admit, I've come up with a long list of tricks to use on kids, trying to make the dull task of getting your photos done more fun. It involves silly socks, crazy hair, and long conversations about the paint turkey they made in class ).

So yeah. Now to go through all the photos, organize, touch-up, and burn to a CD.
