(no subject)
things are calming down a bit now that NOD is over. still haven't posted about that... i probably should soon, before i forget. i never did post about tribal rev either.
spent a lot of time following the oil spill and what's being done about it. spreading the word as much as possible and hoping to give perspective on the situation to the people who don't think it's such a big deal. not sure i feel up to organizing anything at the moment. i'm spread very thin as it is and feel that i'm already spending a ton of energy with what i'm doing now.
the student showcase is this coming saturday. super excited about having it at Old Dog Tavern! they've been very supportive and eager to assist. *so* unlike FIRE. still looking for new digs... the ones i'd checked out before are very tiny and dank. they'll work in a pinch, but i most certainly don't want to put down roots there. this town needs more dance studios. i wonder what sort of financial assistance i could get to start a business like that? hmmmmm. something to ponder.
went to detroit yesterday for the rose harden workshops. she kicked our butts! rose is hilarious and sweet and a very detail oriented instructor. i learned some anatomical things i wasn't aware of, such as, when you clench your jaw, it makes your lower abs tense. she gave me new perspective on some foundational movements and some new ideas to teach. but on a personal level, i didn't really find much to push me forward creatively. though on a technical level, yes. once the workshops were done, we went to a coney island with the unveiled crew. i was feeling pretty crappy by that point (getting sick) and cindy kept complaining that she'd only had 4 hours of sleep. so i bowed out of performing and came home early. i was really glad that i made that decision, as i only got worse as the night went on. still felt pretty crappy all day today... aches, sore throat and headache. took it easy all day... didn't go anywhere at all.
erik is working on a solo to 'red right hand'. the small bits that i've seen have me excited for him to finish. he's taking inspiration from some really neat places and his whole process is really encouraging me to start playing with some new ideas.
working on a feather fan choreo with cindy to an abney park song. it's *really* close to being done and we'll have it ready for the show this weekend. after this, boheme is taking a break from performing for a bit to work on some new stuff. i'm really looking forward to it. we've got some strong ITS going now, but i'd like to push us forward into some more complicated combos. i also have several choreos i'm charting out and notions i'd like to push around. we'll be accepting 3 or 4 new people to the troupe in september, so i'll have lots of new energy to work with. looking forward to a chance to slow down and focus on dancing rather than performing for a bit!!!
