feeling quite a bit better today. thinking the mopishness was due to hormonal crap.
trying a couple of new tactics in my improv classes and i'm really liking how things are going. it looks like i'll be adding another class to my schedule to accommodate the request for a student troupe. a few weeks ago, we were approached with a new space to use, for far cheaper than i'm paying at Fire. so, when i add the new class(es), i think i'm going to schedule them there. the space isn't as neat as Fire, but it has mirrors. even trade, in my opinion.
really super duper looking forward to our performance with the Red Sea Pedestrians this friday. i love their music and the crowd that they always draw. always a great energy in the room and everyone dances! the band had really nifty posters made for the event and we're featured on them. the Land of Nod folks saw them when they were in town and were pretty impressed. take my excitement about the RSP show and exponentially multiply it and you'll get an inkling of how excited i am for Land of Nod! i've been talking promotions and scheduling with them all week and this is going to be one freaking awesome festival. we'll be featured on two stages, in the Fringe Forest and the Underground Stage. on top of that, i'll be teaching every day too. but nothing makes this more amazing than the fact that it's on my ancestral land. it had nothing to do with us getting the gig, but it's just still uncanny that this happened right when i was getting into my family history. i'm definitely planning a small personal ritual to honor my ancestors. i'm also hoping to make a connection with the land owners, to see if i can visit the property once the festival is past.
i've been working on a duet to an Abney Park song with Cindy using feather fans. i'm really, really loving it! we're planning on performing it at the Rose Harden show on Aug. 7th in Warren. i found an amazing, weird bed ruffle thing that i'm turning into a skirt for the occasion. it is the exact color of the feather fans and the ruffles have a great bounce to them. i got it at Salvation Army and it was marked $3.00, but when i got to the counter, the salesgirl pointed out that it had a blue tag, making it 50 cents. SCORE!
had a little bit of a confrontation with Wendy at Fire yesterday. i taught for Communities in Schools through Fire a couple of months ago and they haven't paid me yet. Michelle had mentioned that i could just take it off of my rent. but when i gave the check to Wendy, she said i had to pay rent in full and they'd deal with paying me later. i grudgingly agreed and then she started criticizing how much i was paid. instead of being my usual polite and meek self, i very clearly stated that i was told i'd get $40/hr. and it was worth it, because the job was HELL. then i said, if she had a problem with me getting that much, then it could be taken up later, but i was told i'd be paid $40/hr. and you can't change how much i get *after* i do the work. and this is just a smidgen of what i'm dealing with there. last monday, we showed up for class and there were tons of straight pins scattered all over the floor from some sewing project they were working on. we cleaned them up and then there were more yesterday. if you know that people will be dancing in bare feet, don't you think you should keep projects like that in a different room? this isn't the first time this has happened :( add to it that there hasn't been toilet paper for three weeks and the floor is filthy. augh. even more reason to move to the new spot.
classes at the Y are stuffed full. it's fun having so many people, but i also feel that maybe it's too crowded. that's one of the biggest complaints i get about my competitor's classes, so i should really pay attention to that. i've had several students move over to the classes i offer on my own, so working at the Y really ended up being a good decision!
spent some time in the garden this morning. the humidity has backed off quite a bit, so it's much more tolerable out there. all sorts of flowers are blooming! lilies in so many different colors, hollyhocks, foxglove, yarrow, lavender, bee balm, sweetpea, roses, and lots of things i don't recognize. my tomatoes and peppers are growing at an unbelievable rate, but i'm not seeing much of my eggplant... i hope i didn't weed the wrong thing!
it's far too nice today to be inside on the computer... i think i'm going to go to the celery flats for a walk before i pick up erik from work!
