To bring in the New Year I have decided to see if I can grow the triops. Originally purchased for James this Christmas who showed no interest in "growing a pet from the dinosaur age" I decided to go ahead and do it myself.
So you need bottled water or rain water. Tap water will kill them. I started the "experiment" yesterday evening at around 4.30 p.m. They need about 12 hours light, so I had to borrow a lamp from my brother. They are possibly the ugliest creatures on the planet and double their size every day, lifespan 6 - 12 weeks. In that time they should lay eggs and begin the cycle all over again.
This morning their tank had misted over and I thought "oh no - it's too cold for them!"
But then this evening, at around 5.00 p.m. the first signs of life! Two tiny white specks moving around in the water. Then later on, I counted as many as five. Of course they could all die - or there might even be more tomorrow.
At first neither James nor hubby could see anything, but now they are plainly visible even with only a torch shining on them. They now remind me of head lice - i.e. headlice swiming in water! yuk....and now I feel all itchy!
This year I plan to follow a forum to see what Rhydian from X-Factor is up to and whether or not losing X-Factor proves the best thing for him or not.
Meanwhile, Leon the winner, is suffering from tonsillitis. Let's hope he gets to enjoy his new found fame and that his voice doesn't suffer too much!
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! xxxx
