Today has been rather interesting thus far. It started off with me being particularly assertive to my cable company. Comcast has been trying to get me to switch and they have a deal for cable, phone, and internet for $100 a month for a year. RCN was charging me a bit more than that and it was coming out to $135 a month including taxes and fees. So I called and told them I was thinking of switching and asked what they could do for me. They dropped the charge for unlimited long distance so that now my service is $100 a month plus taxes and fees. Hurrah for saving $250+ a year!
I also called my insurance company because they have been sending me notices that an automatic payment had failed to go through... but I never set up any autopays through them. Sure enough, they had no information on my bank numbers to actually charge me for my renter's insurance. Took care of that so it will go through this month. No word yet on my new car insurance premiums (I'm a bit nervous on that one) but I should know sometime next month. In the meantime, I don't think I have a balance on there to pay in July, which means I have and extra $165 in my budget. SWEET!!!
When I got to work, I found invite from my boss to follow up regarding our conversation yesterday. No word on salary stuff yet, but she did address some of the communication issues I brought up in the prior meeting. Essentially, her solution was to have me work much more closely with the Advertiser Account Manager, Heather, in a somewhat submissive role (no innuendos on this one). I like working with Heather, as a rule. We see eye-to-eye most of the time and we play off of each others' ideas well. But I tend to see us more as equals. I realize that she has an MBA and seven years here and I have an MA (actually more applicable) and only 1.5 years, but given our similarities, I can't imagine "reporting in" to her, even if it was unofficial.
Then I went out to lunch with Brendan and we were supposed to go to this camera repair shop that he wanted to scope out for pricing, but it wasn't there. Instead, I noticed a game store,
The Whiz, in the plaza so we went in and I promptly and bought about $100 worth of games and assorted stuff, including freeze-dried ice cream. Mmmmm... It's so tasty! I ended up getting:
* Super Scrabble - larger board that includes quadruple word and letter score squares and more tiles in similar proportions
* Munchkin - the original Munchkin game. No expansions yet. I'll see how I like it once I get a chance to play it.
* Make-Your-Own Monopoly Board - this is going to become a Renn. Faire Monopoly board.
lucretiasd has already agreed to help create the insanity. I'm looking forward to this one.
* Kill Dr. Lucky & Expansion Pack - I figured it would be a good one to have around, especially to game with
artecaluna and her family
* Card slips - Need something to put my White & Green Magic deck in (OK, it's my only halfway decent Magic deck) so that if I ever play Magic again I will know which deck I've got. I do have other cards, I just don't use them.
...and, of course, the freeze-dried ice cream.
Got back and noticed a major disparity in data and proceeded to find a workaround for that for about an hour and a half until it was time to meet with Heather regarding some stuff we've both been working on, just separately. Turns out, as usual, we kinda' had the same thoughts. I think my Visio diagram was pretty impressive to her and Eric, the Reporting Analyst. We also discussed the possible incompetency (I think it's a certainty, but I wasn't about to let on) of a particular member of the organization. Hopefully Heather will get some more information from her boss as I have already made Kerri, my boss, well aware of the situation.
Now I am preparing to head home for an evening of studying, CoH, and ogling my new games. In terms of the task list, I've got to hit up CVS for some stuff, then dinner, study at least the chapter on Differentiation and possibly start in on the Probability book as well. The first chapter is just logical notation review, which shouldn't be too bad. Throughout the study time, I have also GOT to do laundry in preparation for being in Florida this weekend with
xany-hellion and friends. Maybe some work is in order, but that depends on time and mental capacity by the time I'm done studying. I've also set aside some time for gaming tonight as I'm once again hooked (Thanks a lot!! ;-) ) and always find it relaxing as a way to end the evening. Just a little ambitious about what I can get done in a night.
