17 year old sentenced to 10 years for blowjob

Jan 27, 2007 09:53

Apparently, this boy Genarlow Wilson, who was being recruited by major colleges for football and track, who was the Homecoming King in his school is now labeled a child molester and sentenced to 10 years in prison. For what you ask? Getting a blowjob from a 15 year old girl. On tape. The tape shows that it was not in any way forced or coerced. The girl came to his hotel room and blew him on New Years Eve. And now he's a convicted felon.

I don't know about you guys, but I remember what 15 was like. I thought I was a woman at 15 and 15 year old boys were geeks. The juniors and seniors were the real catch, right? From what I recall, there's not much difference in general between 15 year old girls and 17 year old boys in maturity. The law, if he'd screwed her, would have charged him with a misdemeanor, but because she blew him, it was sodomy. The law is different for sodomy. Apparently that rubs people the wrong way. Laughing

The legislature amended the law, but didn't make it retroactive. ??? So this boy's still in jail, with hard core criminals, missing his chance for college, missing his chance for a normal or even better than normal life (we're talking the chance to play for the NFL here!), for doing nothing more than what millions of other boys across this country do (hell, even a past president got caught and she was more than two years his junior)! And he's going to live with the label "child molester" after being released from prison in ten years.

So I ask two questions:

1. Why is "sodomy", which includes blowjobs, handjobs, anal sex, titty-fucking, etc - anything other than penis to vagina sex (some even argue that certain positions are included in this term), more immoral than sex that can produce a child? If this is based on the idea that sex that isn't for reproduction is wrong - which is more 'wrong'? Two teens, not ready for children engaging in sex which can produce a child or a blowjob? I see nothing other than religious influence in this disparity in the law because it's religion (various ones at that) which have said that wasting a man's sperm is a sin. Should this not have some impact on the law itself? Shouldn't all sex acts be treated the same?

2. Is it right to strip this boy of a promising future for this act? Is it justice?

Oh, and for anyone who cares to sign it (PLEASE DO), there's an online petition to free this boy.
