Turkey (part 1)

Sep 14, 2006 12:23

I've given the matter some thought, here's what I'll be doing with this journal in the next few weeks. For the next week or so I'll be posting small parts of my Turkey travelogue. I was originally going to post the whole thing in one or two instalments, but on second thoughts, it seems better to divide it into bite-size chunks. I'll try to add a ( Read more... )

turkey, text, mosques, colour photos

Glad to see you again here in LJ-land. :)

[Looking forward to seeing more of your travel photos (and accompanying stories too :-) ).]

Thank you, Constantine. It's good to be back. I look forward to seeing more Alaska photos, too! (Surely you must have had something resembling a summer by now...?)

We have autumn here already. Everything around is in yellow, green, red, brown and orange... Add some blue sky and you have quite a palette. =) Looks gorgeous.

It's getting colder already too.

I'll develop two rolls of Velvia in a couple weeks, so some pictures are to come. =) Intertwined with more pinhole weirdness every once in a while, of course. :-)

Sounds rather like Turkey, except that it probably looks completely different. There are autumn colours and then there are autumn colours...

I look forward to seeing the Velvia shots (are they going to cross-processed?). Pinhole weirdness is good, too, so bring it on!

...are they going to cross-processed?...

No, I'm not going to cross-process them. The problem is that I'd love to try cross-processing, but there's only one photo lab here that does slides and I'm pretty sure they are going to frown at me if I ask to.

Developing is a bit easier with pinhole, since I develop my 4x5 negs myself... ;)

P.S.: Framing with no viewfinder and 140 degrees angle of view (across the diagonal, something like a 7 mm lens) is always a challenge and a-lot-of-fun, I must say :-)

If your photo lab can handle slides, they should be able to handle cross-processing, too. Seriously, it's not that hard or unusual. The people working at the lab may laugh at you, but really, who cares? One of my other LJ friends recently had photos cross-processed by a high-street pharmacy (!). It took her weeks to summon up the courage to ask them to do it, and once she'd finally done it she had to wait two weeks to get the photos back, but she loved the result. So, really, why not give it a try? I daresay those people will have had stranger requests...

I've never done any pinhole photography. It sounds intriguing but awfully frustrating at first. I'll probably get around to trying my hand at it at some point, but first I'm going to go digital! :-)

I'll ask them -- just to see what happens. :-)

Frustrating? Why? I mean -- no! I like it. I have a 4x5 inch sheet film pinhole, so setting it up to take a picture takes some time (I'd better say it looks like a pagan ritual or something, and is terribly slow :-) ) -- and some thinking. First of all. And I like the result (you can see the pictures in my journal; they are not anything special -- but I like them anyway). ;-)

I really wish I had more time for this.

Good luck. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Are the last two pictures in your journal pinhole photos, or just the one of the river? Either way, I like them. Good stuff.

I wish I had more time for this, too. :-)

Good luck.

Thanks!

They are. (Hmm. I think I should add a tag to make it clear.)

Either way, I like them. Good stuff.

Thank you! ;)

I did ask them. They don't. Argh!

But at least they still process E-6. I don't feel like buying processing mailers yet... ;)

Aw, too bad. Is there no way you can send the slides elsewhere to have them cross-processed? If you're really desperate, I can get them processed for you...

I think I can find some kind of processing mailer for this, but I'm not sure if I want to...

But anyway, thank you so much for your offer! :-)
