I like the tonality and feel of the first one. Very expressive. It reminds me of another headstone shot you had earlier (not in this series), which I also liked a lot.
VERY nice.
Why the quote from Highlander songs by Queen? (on the last one)
Another headstone shot I had earlier? Oh, you mean one of the Melrose photos, I suppose. I had to think hard about that one, as I didn't recall ever having posted another headstone photo before. Yes, that one was nice, as well, although I rather overdid the sepia toning, I think. I only recently found out that you can desaturate the colorisation of black-and-white photos. :-)
The Queen song just popped into my head as I was compiling the entry, and seemed appropriate because of Mary's hand gesture. She's probably bestowing a blessing, or asking for one from above, but to me, it looks as though she is waking him from the dead herself. It looks like serious magic to me.
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about the second picture. Are you saying it should be rotated a little to get the horizontal lines to run completely parallel to the frame? If so, I agree, but I'm afraid it can't be done without ruining the bottom of the image. You see, I had a bit of an accident while taking this photo, in that I tilted the camera rather badly while pressing the shutter. I've already rotated the image several degrees; if I rotate it one more degree clockwise (as I agree it should), the white space underneath the dates of death will disappear, as indeed will part of the dates themselves. So I've chosen to keep it this way. I agree that a slight rotation would be nice, but since it seems impossible to achieve it without losing parts of the composition which I think should be there, I'm not going to do it. :-)
Correcting the perspective and the barrel distortion? Ha. I think you rather overestimate my Photoshop skills, Sergei. I'm a total Photoshop novice; I can't even create a layer. I'm about to acquire a Photoshop book, though, so with a bit of luck I'll soon learn how to correct perspective and barrel distortion. I'll get back to you. :-)
Thank you! I have a good mix of angels and non-angel cemetery pictures coming up, although I'll be doing something else entirely next week for the sake of variety. :-)
Actually, I don't like any kind of sake. I'm not a big drinker; pretty much the only alcoholic beverages I can stomach are gin-and-tonic and really sweet liqueurs such as Amaretto, 43 and Yugoslavian pear liqueur. The latter is very good.
I've had sake on two occasions, and I seem to remember finding cold sake mildly less disgusting than warm sake. I wouldn't drink either for pleasure, though. :-)
hahaha Elaine, you're too funny! Of course I'm being serious. I'm floored at the black and whites you've been posting lately.
Have you looked at my journal archives? Have you seen many BWs in there? No! They're mostly all blazing colour, because I haven't found a BW method I'm happy with. I was complaining to my photographer friend earlier about it too (along with the fact that I have yet to master the burn tool).
This is the kind of answer I was looking for, yep!

No, I haven't seen many black and whites in your archives. I do, however, remember seeing one colorised black-and-white in your archives which absolutely floored me -- the one of you putting on lipstick in a little hand mirror. I assume it was a desaturated colour photo to which you added some red, rather than a genuine black and white with some red thrown in. Either way, it looked like a superb Photoshop effort to me, so I assumed you knew all about colorising black-and-white photos. I'm surprised to find out you didn't.
Anyhow, now that I've told you my secrets, you realise I'm expecting gorgeous black and whites from you, yes? :-)
