Hello everyone,
As you all know, I've been working hard on a mailing project for the past week and a half, and today I've completed it. However, now that I've finished, I want to share with you all what I've been working on and to ask for your help. Below please find the letter with all the information. I will be walking on November 4th and am looking for sponsors, so if you'd be willing to help out with this cause, please email me and I will give you an address to which you may mail the donation to. If you'd like to do the walk, I believe the minimum donation is $10. Email me for any other information. Thank you all very much.
The Wolinsky family has formed a team called "Jessie's Sight Savers" to participate in the first Los Angeles VISIONWALK. It will be held on the UCLA campus on Sunday November 4, 2007 at 9:30 am. And we can really use your help.
We are involved in this fundraising effort because our soon to be 15 year old daughter, Jessie, has an incurable eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), which causes a progressive loss of vision ultimately leading to blindness. Jessie has already experienced "night blindness" and a significant loss of peripheral vision. We firmly believe that the research being sponsored by The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) will at the very least slow the progression of RP and eventually lead to a cure and prevention of this insidious disease.
The FFB is a national eye research organization that is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for the variety of RP gene types and other retinal degenerative diseases. Since 1971, FFB has raised over $266 million to support critical research we hope will lead to the cure through such novel treatments as gene therapy, drug delivery systems to the retina and retinal cell transplantation. Currently there are two human trials in progress which have produced extraordinary results, with several more registered for approval with the FDA. Marsha, Jessie and I are inspired by the leadership, dedication, and commitment of the officers, board members, staff and volunteers of FFB that we experienced first hand at the 2004 and 2007 Vision Conferences in Chicago and Kansas City, respectively. That is why our family has taken on this challenge to raise $20,000, or more to do our share for Jessie and over 9,000,000 Americans suffering from RP and other retinal diseases. With your help we can do this. Below you can choose how you want to get involved:
- Walk with our team: JESSIE'S SIGHT SAVERS on November 4 and obtain a sponsor sheet from us or on line at
- Be a team captain yourself and recruit other walkers to participate and obtain their own sponsors.
- Be a sponsor yourself and send your tax-deductible donation (payable to Foundation Fighting Blindness) to us at address above.
We all know a parent will do whatever it takes to insure the well-being of his/her child.
I can assure you that we will be in the forefront supporting FFB's research efforts for as long as it takes to save Jessie's sight. Thank you for your consideration and friendship.
With all good wishes to you and your family,
Fred
