 Title: Don’t {Chapter 7}

Author: Mistress_astute

Pairing: Inoobu, Yabudai

Rating: PG-13

Summary: Yabu has been cheating on Inoo with Daiki. Is Inoo ever going to find out? And if he does, what's going to happen?

Note: I think that this story is probably ending soon.

Daiki was living in bliss. So this was what being in a true relationship felt like. Well, true in the sense that he no longer felt that guilt tugging at the strings of his heart anymore and he was not spending all the rare times he had with Yabu thinking that he should break up with the other. No, all of that was over. Now he was enjoying every single minute, every single second he spent with the other.

“So you’re not going to try breaking up with me anymore right?” Yabu teased, laughing when Daiki shot him an annoyed (but extremely adorable) glare.

“Go on about it and I might try,” Daiki retorted. It was his turn to laugh when Yabu’s face morphed into one of horror. He giggled and pecked Yabu on the lips. “Don’t worry. I won’t.”

Things were simple. Yabu would go out with him on a date at least once every week. Daiki did not know how Yabu managed that but he did not care anymore, as long as Yabu was with him. Sure his heart did ache a bit whenever he saw Inoo but that feeling was immediately gone as soon as he saw Yabu. Daiki was so contented with his life that he honestly did not mind being the ‘mistress’, ‘the third party’, or whatever. He was so happy and ignorant of everything else that he never thought that anything bad could happen, but he was proven wrong.

He was at Yabu’s house one day and they were making out on the bed. Yabu’s family was out so they did not have to worry about getting caught. Well, that was what they thought.

“What the heck do you two think you are doing?” That familiar voice belonged to none other than Hikaru. The only difference was the tone of outrage.

“Hikaru,” Yabu said immediately, getting off of Daiki who sat up on the bed as well. “How did you get in here?”

“I know where you keep the spare key remember?” Hikaru said in annoyance before glaring at Yabu.

“Look, I can explain.”

“Explain what Kota?!” Hikaru spat. “I caught you two with my own eyes. What the heck? You do know that Kei’s your boyfriend right?” Then he turned to glare at Daiki. “And he happens to be your best friend too.”

Daiki looked away. It was true. What sort of best friend was he to do this? Suddenly the reality of the situation dawned upon him once again with a bigger impact and the reasons of why he should break up with Yabu came floating back to him. The feeling of guilt and regret that he had been silently suppressing all this while came washing over him and it hurt so much.

“I’m sorry…” Daiki mumbled, eyes casted downwards as the beginning of tears pricked at his eyes.

Hikaru was about to shout again but somehow the image of Daiki looking so pitiable made him stop. He bit his lower lip and turned to Yabu instead.

“Explain then,” he said coolly.

“I love Daiki,” Yabu stated clearly and Daiki wondered how it was possible to feel so much happiness when he was in so much pain.

“What?” Hikaru said in disbelief, staring at Yabu as if he was some exotic animal he had never seen before in his entire life. “What about Kei?”

Yabu avoided looking at Daiki and muttered softly.

“I love Kei too…”

Daiki felt the happiness slowly draining away and he stood up from the bed. He felt his heart hardening again but he knew that he would still stay if Yabu had a chance to talk to him. So he had to leave while Hikaru was still here.

“You know what? I really don’t know what I’m doing here,” Daiki said, trying not to choke on his words. “I’m sorry. It’s all my fault okay?”

“Daiki…” Yabu called out but the younger boy ignored him and continued his way to the door. Yabu reached out to grab his arm but it was harshly swatted away.

Hikaru shot Yabu a glare and went out after the youngest BEST member. Yabu wanted to follow them but the look that Hikaru gave him compelled him to stay.

You’re hurting them both…

Yabu collapsed onto the floor and stared at his reflection in the mirror. It was still him; the same Yabu-kun whom everyone respected. Well at least that was how it looked like on the outside. He was sure that he had changed inside, and he knew that two timing was wrong, but he still could not bring himself to choose between the two of them. He loves both Inoo and Daiki. How was he to choose?

--

“Daiki,” Hikaru repeated as he finally caught up with the younger boy, which was actually not a very hard thing to do. “Why are you doing this? It’s wrong.”

“I can’t help it!” Daiki shouted angrily. It was lucky that there was no one around. Hikaru looked at him expectantly, waiting for an explanation. “It’s not as if I want to be the third party and ruin Inoo’s life or anything like that! It’s just that… it’s just that I love Kota okay?!”

“It’s not okay!” Hikaru snapped, ignoring the tears that were streaming down Daiki’s face. “Inoo’s your best friend. How would you feel if he did that to you?”

Daiki wanted to scream at Hikaru, saying that he would not mind but he knew that that would be a lie and he knew that Hikaru knew too. He kept silent and stared at the ground. But really if Inoo ever did that, would he ever forgive his best friend?

“But you don’t have to worry,” Hikaru said in a strange tone, causing Daiki to look up. “Because Kei would never do such a thing to you. He loves you and you’re his most cherished friend in this world. He would never betray you…”

“Like I betrayed him…” Daiki breathed out as more tears poured out of his eyes. “But I really didn’t mean it Hikaru. I couldn’t control myself. I didn’t mean it… I really didn’t…”

Looking at the younger boy crying so wretchedly in front of him, Hikaru could not help but feel a little sympathy for the other. He strode over and pulled Daiki into a tight hug and patted his back comfortingly.

“Don’t worry,” he reassured. “Everything will work out in the end okay? Just trust me.”

“How?” Daiki asked, his voice muffled against Hikaru’s shirt.

Hikaru sighed.

“I really don’t know but we’ll work it out…”

“Hikaru,” Daiki said as he pulled away from the older one. Hikaru looked at him questioningly. “You love Kei right?”

“Wh-what are you talking about?” Hikaru said, laughing awkwardly as he scratched his head. “Where did you get that idea from? Dai-chan, you’re so hilarious!” Hikaru started laughing but then stopped when he realised that Daiki was looking at him seriously.

“You love Kei right?” Daiki repeated.

“No, I…” Hikaru sighed. “Yes, yes I do. So?”

“So would you have done the same thing as me if Kei had offered?”

Hikaru felt his voice getting caught in his throat but before his imagination ran wild, he quickly shook his head.

“Really?” Daiki asked, tilting his head slightly.

Hikaru thought about it, to have Kei in his arms and for Kei to utter those three words, I love you, willingly and meaning every single words. To be able to go out with Kei on dates and everything… Hikaru was starting to feel extremely happy just thinking about it.

“Well… maybe I would…” Hikaru admitted in the end.

“You do know that Kei’s in a relationship with Yabu right?” Daiki asked and Hikaru nodded slowly, not liking where the conversation was going.

“Yabu’s your best friend right?”

Hikaru nodded. “Daiki, what are you getting at?”

“Did you think about him at all?” Daiki questioned and Hikaru realised with a start that he did not. Not at all.

“I didn’t…” he answered slowly, frowning slightly as Daiki stared at him.

“I didn’t either.”
