Sanford Benson Waggoner, 80, of Reva died Thursday,

March 30, 2006 at his residence. He was born July 30, 1925 in Cumberland, MD to the late Ford Clayton Waggoner and

Fannie Mae Benson. Mr. Waggoner was a veteran of the

United States Air Force. He served as a radio operator, mechanic gunner, and later obtained the rank of Sergeant. While in service, he displayed his musical talents playing trombone and bass fiddle for the Army Air Force Band. He played for the military band during the day and a dance band at night. Mr. Waggoner was awarded the good conduct medal, American-Theater Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He graduated from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore in 1950 and continued to play music for orchestras until 1982. Mr. Waggoner attended the

Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was very active in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church music program along with the Madison Co. Choral Society. He also sang in many other churches and continued to play in the Bell Choir. He retired from Insurance Service Offices as a fire underwriter after twenty six years of service. He is survived by his wife of fifty seven years,

Carol V. Waggoner, three daughters, Nancy Ann Hitching and her husband, Bob of Croatia, Susan Carol Nazelrod of Elkins, WV, Donna Lee Menefee and her husband, Carl of Reva, thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ford Clayton Waggoner, Jr. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church,

1735 W. Hoover Rd, Haywood, VA 22722.

Pastor Brian Wagner will be officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
