Platter Storage, the storage of the future

that's 5x 160 disc holders + 1x 120 disc holders

The only anime in that is hentai, in one of them boxes (can't remember which). All the boxes are at least half full. And i got more waiting to be burnt

As for anime, oh god... so much more.. almost 600 discs....

So i've decided on quite an expensive method of storing them. 4 Platters of glass, otherwise known as a 500GB drive. Clearly not just one either..

There's a few problems with this though. first one's cost. The cheapest way to do it, at this stage, is using Western Digital 500GB IDE drives, with SATA coming a close second. 25c per GB and 26c per GB respectively

Mind you, that's at 125/129 per drive, and my normal 50 disc spindle (works out to be 217GB, IF i max it out, which i don't always do), is 19. Or 8.8c per GB and 38c per disc. Dual layer media is still at least $1 per disc

These prices are where i get my media. Buy drives or optical media from big box stores, and the price goes up dramatically. other computer shops, no so much, but a Seagate 1TB is almost double the price of a WD 1TB

Best thing is that all of this is going to go down in price. It wasn't long ago when 320GBs had the best price per GB ratio out there. I remember building Krystal's computer, and the drives with the best ratio were Seagate 120GB drives.

for the record, WD 1TB drives are 36c per GB. And no doubt i'll expect them to drop

Second problem is how to connect it to the computer. It's going to be too many cables if i start having external cages for all of them. the Icy Dock MB664US-1S(B) is one i can use if/when i need to bring those drives over to friends place. It's a nice screwless external SATA box.

when i'm at home, i'm intending to get a few of These Drive Docks, though for my Main computer, i am wanting this eSATA cradle instead. though, with my future mobo only having one e-sata port (and my current one only having an e-sata port due to a passthrough), i may change my mind on this one... Also, hellish expensive from this place. damoclesangel, would you see how much this is locally? thanks muchly
