Excel Saga is a slapstick, barely-held-together story written to experiment with all different common themes and cliches in anime (or so I understand it). In my opinion, it could've done that a whole lot better than it did. By episode 10, I was weary of it - and mind, this was back when I could count all series I'd seen using only one hand, so my standards were pretty damn low - and by the time we finished, I was only watching it out of a sense of responsibility to finish what I'd started.
I respect Excel for what it is, but I never, ever want to sit through it again. x_x
