I especially like the ending, "Not my style to meddle in my brother's business, anyway." because one is of two minds about this statement. You just KNOW he's thinking "...even though I want to." And the reader, if they know Ed at all, is thinking, "Uh-huh, yeah. Right. And if you believe that, I have a sandbox in Ishbal to sell you."

BUT! But. There is this to say, and I like the middle of it too, Ed thinking sbout Al REALLY being back, and that's that Ed and Al invested so much time and love in each other because for years essentially th eonly thing one brother had was the other, like Russel and Fletcher.

Ed's not a trusting guy, and that was just how he had to be, in order to survive, and for years, Ed took care of Al and trusted no one else to do it for him because he learned no one else could do it correctly. In the mind of an eleven year old boy, this makes perfect sense because both Ed and Al learned at very early ages that the world could be a nasty, cruel place that didn't care that two little boys were now orphaned, and it certainly didn't care about an--oops-- "bad idea" transmutation. There wasn't any mercy for Ed and Al as children and Ed probably figures there isn't any mercy for them now as young adults, which is why I think he has a hard time swallowing belief in a God-like figure, and letting go of Al now.

... Wow, I'm sorry I just prattled on like that. Heh, rammbling librian time! Anyway, I liked this story. Poor Ed, in a bad mood. Al needs to make comfort food.

I have a sandbox in Ishbal to sell you. WIN. And it's so true ... Ed's full of shit. He loves to meddle in his brother's life, but you're right, he's learning slowly how to back off and only meddle as much as poor Al can stomach it.

Regarding the why for Ed's psychotic overprotectiveness ... yes, absolutely to everything you said. He and Al were all each other had for so long, it's to be expected. Also, though, consider Broche in this: he's from the Military, which Edward absolutely doesn't trust, and because Al can't remember the past, Ed's exceptionally suspicious about what kind of memories Broche may have given his brother. Now you and I may know that Danny would never intentionally do anything to separate Al from his big brother, but as you pointed out, Ed knows that there are people out there who would, and that scares him to death.

I like your prattling. It makes me all leapy and excited (which makes Mr. Quickly throw stuff at me, but it's so worth it anyway!) Thank you so much for reading and commenting hon! ♥

Exactly! Even scarier: Ed knows there are people in the world who would do that sort of thing to Al, and he's RIGHT! It stands to reason that there's a thin line between crazy-paranoia and truth.

I think a lot of Ed's ability to believe the world is out to get them has to do with their father leaving. That and the world as a whole just kept proving him right, things that Al can't remember. Now, they had support, sure, but for the most part, it was at a distance and as well-meaning as it was, in the end, the Elric brothers had to look out for themselves. At that point though, even if they had a strong motherly figure to keep a constant protective watch on them, I think Ed would have bristled under that. And I don't think they'd actually believe she'd live since, after all, their own mother didn't.

I'm glad you like my prattling! Makes me feel better when I ramble. Hee! And don't worry, in spirit, I'll launch myself in front of the things Master Quickly throws at Mistress and bat them away with my Myna skills.

Oh: you mentioned keeping Danny away from the scary books in another comment-thread we had going. What we'd have to do at my place of work is store away the scary movies in the video and dvd section, next to the old journals. Surprisingly, we have a wide extension of horror movies.... I can't figure out -why-, though, but we do. So'kay though. He could easily be distracted by an Al strip-tease while said covers are stashed in a large bag.

Hmm. I agree that Hoenheim leaving them had a lot to do with Ed's mistrust, but I think that it was the other things on top of that that pushed Ed over the edge. Parents do, unfortunately, abandon their children or die, sometimes, but the other things are just unnatural, like having the leader of the country trying to kill you, your supervisor--and now foster father, essentially--trying to set you on fire, your mentor turning his kid into an animal and allowing her to be killed, a famous assassin coming after you to blow your head up ...

Which would explain why Ed's got the massive paranoia going on and Al's just mildly clingy. He misses his parents, while Ed's scared to death of the entire world.

This is why I didn't like FMA, it's just so horrible to make a series about a kid going through all that stuff. Oh and I forgot all the shit with Envy and the other sins, toss that into the list, too.

Prattle away in my journal! Or IM me sometime (RussTringham) and prattle at me there! It makes the bunnies hop.

Regarding Danny, if you tell him where the scary stuff is, he'll most likely stay away from it. Man doesn't like waking up in the middle of the night crying, it makes him feel wimpy which he is, but nevermind.

Al, keep your clothes on in the library. Goodness.

Just be glad Ed and Russel didn't show up. Those two think libraries are perfectly acceptable places to have noisy sex. *sigh*

As do many, MANY other people in the great state of Florida. I've walked into so many people doing just that, or about to do just that, in our study rooms, it's unbelievable. Which I actually prefer to the other things we get: bomb threats, someone actually trying to light the floor on fire, streakers, angry drunken homeless men, professors who tell me I have killed the music... all sorts of things. ^^ In a library (whoever said it'd be boring here!).

But, squee! I'd be happy to prattle with you on AIM. Mine is Ravenclawchickee; I shall add you and all that special stuff. Thank you!

Your libraries sound ... ah, interesting. Especially compared to ours.

We had a shooter; he didn't shoot anything and it took the cops four hours to get him to leave, because our cops blow THAT HARD.

I'll send you my Russ and Ed muses. They'll happily destroy any semblance of peace & quiet your library's got ... XD

Score! Send 'em on over. At the very least, it'll be a nice sort of interesting. We love the half-way decent and polite patrons, even in muse form, and many hugs will be given. "You said 'please'? Holy cow!" O.O *clings* "Thank you!" *cuddle*

Poor muse. A very tired-looking, odd librarian latching on; no doubt Ed-muse would be less than pleased. ^^

Well. Here's the plotbunny your comment gave me! Don't take offense at the librarian character ... she's not meant to be "you." ^_~
