RIP The Connection

So I decided to write a Eulogy for The Connection:

The first time I ever went to a gay bar was a small bar in Clarksville, TN. I never imagined they got much bigger, or the talent was any better. Then one day a soon to be BF took me to a bar in Nashville, TN called The Connection. I walked in and immedly was in owe. What a huge place. Eddie toured me through the many rooms in connections, as it has been slangly termed. I walked through a country bar to a huge dance floor with couches in the bag. We then went through a small door with a neon sign over it to a showbar where some of the best in drag were performing. that night I saw Calpernia Addams, Samantha St Clair, Regine Phillips, Hurricane Summers and Austria Andrews perform drag. All night I was amazed. I only had seen suchb things on TV. Through our relationship Connections was the setting for many great times. The first time I did X(which most consider bad but was fun at the time). The first time he told me he loved me was also there. We danced many nights and good timeas away. I spent birthdays, Halloweens, new years and many other holidasy in the bar. Other relatioships came and went and all had times at the connection. I met many good friends at that bar and a best frind, Cleve, not only helped me through a hard time but also introduced me to the world of Performing. I grew up in the club and went from a child to a somewhat mature adult.

I know it had become fashionable in the past 2 years to bash connections. I also know that the same people who bash it have spent many nights having fun in that same club. Of corse once new bars opened they all turned there back and left. This bar has also created and helped elivate many stars in the drag world. Almost ever big name in nashville has once been on cast, or speciel guested at the connection before moving to a new bar. Bianca, Rita, Chyna, Austria, Santana, anastacia Dupree all in ways got there start or got to where they are now becasue of there time at the connection. The talent nights helped create and helped perfect many MANY of the stars of today. Of corse now those same queens bash and destroy the bar.

I understand that many people have been burned by the people at the bar. There was at least 2 assholes for every good person there. But don't let them ruin the memory of the Bar. The Connection has a speciel place in many peopls hearts. People have fallen in love there (we all know the famious barry, Calpernia story). Many of these people are still together. It has also created stars who have gone on to other venues.

I am grateful to have been a very small part of this bar. I am glad I got to meet and hang out with many employees. I will have very fond memories of this bar and though they like to verbally deny, so will many others.....

You will be miss
