4th of july and the wonders of fort campbell, KY

First off, Thank You, Soldiers past and present, with out you guys, I would not be here today.  Your sacrifices are not forgotten and may you look on Independence Day with the knowledge that it is because of you that Americans today can celebrate still.

Hope everyone had a splendid 4th, I know I did (after I realized that the fireworks were just that and weren't trying to kill me that is).  Lit off some fire works, participated in a bottle rocket war, went to the carnival, got some funnel cake, and watched as a Native American dude proceded to drink 20+ bottles of beer and still remain standing in the span of 3 hours.  It was quite impressive.

If you have not heard, then let me tell you; Fort Campbell, KY is quite possibly the greatest base ever.  The roads are actually roads, there is stuff to do around here, the weather is not so humid (compared to Fort Polk that is), and Nashville is right down the road.  The people here are friendly, for the most part;  and best of all, the Post Exchange has a gun store in it with lots and lots of guns, all tax free and cheaper than retail.  The Clarksville area is very nice, lots of stores and stuff to do around here, with an suprising amount of Korean restaurants and people, but that is a norm at any Army base.  I wouldn't mind living here, it is no Austin, but its less crowded and not as many hippies around here, and there is a lot of open outdoor areas around here, like fishing ponds and hike trails.

I have been assigned to a Infantry Battalion, Cco 2/506, which is so awesome I can't even describe it.  And i'm back on a 60 mm Mortar section and it's my section, which is even more badass.  I love going to work now, although I do need more Privates, kind of hard to run a section with 3 people.  But that is minor stuff, needless to say.  Only bad part about it is that my unit is not slated to deploy again for about 2 years to Afghanistan, and well, I want an Afghanistan deployment under my belt.  It's weird, when I was in Iraq, I wanted nothing more than to come back, and now that I am back, I want nothing but to go back overseas.  Just don't feel right sitting back here safe and comfortable while more and more Americans die each day.

Got Air Assault school sometime this year, its gonna be awesome times in the sun.  And a Mortar live fire in August, can't wait.

Well, heres to life and enjoying every moment of it.
