So I put in an application to BUPA for funding for my pilot project this morning. It's only the first stage - if they do think my project is interesting, I will have to fill in a more detailed applicaton. But I think I made a good case in less than 500 words.
For those of you who don't know - I am trying to start up a project with Addenbrookes hospital to give free sessions of Contemporary Psychotherapy to adults diagnosed with ADHD. This has 3 major aims:
1) To get my hours for my psychotherapy qualification, and fulfil a criteria for working with patients in a health care environment
2) To help the clinical psychiatrist at Addenbrookes, who is desperately trying to turn his research clinic (which he runs in his own time out of his own funds) into a proper clinic to see adult patients with ADHD
3) To increase the body of evidence out there with regards to psychotherapy and adults with ADHD
The project itself is on hold at the moment, as we are trying to get approval for it. I am hoping that if I get funding, that will highlight to those-what-make-decisions that this project/clinic/client group has value and there is a demonstrable need. It also will mean I will have the funds to actually focus on this work instead of trying to do it peacemeal. I've asked for £70K, which when you look at it, is really a drop in the bucket in terms of funding requests.
All good thoughts appreciated. They finalise at the end of October. My next chance to do something like this is in January.
In the meantime, I am trying to dream up ways to hold an event before Christmas to bring together any adults in Cambridgeshire/East Anglia who have been affected by ADHD. I'm in talks with Cam-mind at the moment, and this weekend am going to sit down and make a list of who to contact when. All good thoughts would be appreciated for this too.
Thank goodness I've got Monday off - as next week it's a 5 day course! I think I can.....I think I can......I think I can......
