Guy had his meeting with a representative of the
NICEIC today. It went exceptionally well; the rep gave his presentation to Guy, and then interview him as well. Apparently they don't accept any applicants they don't believe are capable or serious. They are the top organisation for electrician qualifications in the UK. If he trains with them:
~ He could be fully qualified in a year or less.
~ He receives FULL qualification; not just PAT testing, Part P or Domestic; he can work in construction.
~ They supply him with a mentor/tutor that is available anytime to support learning.
~ They give additional training in business development and advertising.
~ They provide ongoing support AFTER you qualify, so you have a network to contact if you have issues or problems.
~ They provide you with the all tools and study materials as part of your fees.
~ They don't send you to take a test until they are confident you are ready to pass it.
~ They encourage you to contact their qualified professionals in your area and use them as a network by offering to work with them for a low fee or volunteering.
~ The rep gave him several ideas to deal with issues he's currently got, just to start him off and improve what he's already doing.
He is incredibly enthused and excited. He wishes he could start next week. This is the best chance we have had in nearly 5 years to improve and plan for the future.
*deep breath*
Now we just have to find the £1500 to pay the up-front fees. The rest we can handle in regular payments of about £300 a month, but that starter payment is really daunting. Guy's contacting the solicitors who are working on compensation from his accident at Christmas, in the hopes we can get a part payment that might cover it. Failing that, there may be a couple of other options, but worst-case scenario we spend the next 3 months saving. It would be totally amazing if we could start now....but this second I'm just happy to see him aimed in a direction that has a future.
