the obligatory political thing

I voted for Kerry. Bush got elected. Everyone is walking around in shock, "Oh my god, Bush got elected, the world is going to end!". Here is a little update: I just looked outside, the locusts aren't upon us yet. Big deal, the one skull and bones member from Yale who is richer than any of us got beaten by the other skull and bones member from Yale who is richer than any of us. I don't agree with any of his policies, and come to think of it, I don't agree with the basic principle of democracy (that everyone is equal), but I also believe that democracy, as flawed and awful as it is, is the only form of government that actually kinda works.

People at work were in tears, I can't believe it. I don't like where the world is heading either, but this is democracy in action, this is 120 MILLION people going out and making a descision, and this time, the people a lot of us disagree with had more people turn out. For any of us to get that mad about democracy in action is weird. Yes I do believe that Bush is the wrong person for the job, but a lot of people disagreed with me, and now I have to be an adult and live with that.

I don't think Bush is as genuinely evil as people seem to make him out to be. I doubt that Rumsfeld, Cheney and him sit in a room and kill puppies in thier spare time, I just think he is self serving. I thought Clinton was self serving to, but it was a self serving that I could tolerate. A lot of us tolerated Clinton, and now a lot of people are tolerating Bush.

The Democratic party is in need of redefining itself. Bush and Kerry were essientially in favour of the same things. They were in some race to see who could be more middle of the road. And Bush won. Now we have to move on. We have to prepare for '08. That is the problem, the Republicans are professionals at this shit, and the Democrats are the guy who does his homework in the hall before the class begins. If the Republicans are the "Grand Old Party" than the Democrats are the "C Student Party".

If I here one more idiot tell me that they are leaving the country because of Bush I will slap them. They care about Democracy so much, but then when thier guy loses, "Oh god, I gotta go!". Fuck them. Real dedication to the country there asshole. I say go, leave, and let the people who really care stay and be brave and fight the good fight.

Everyone is mad about the anti-gay marriage thing. People aren't ready for it. That is what this told me. You might be, but that doesn't mean that the whole country is. I personally think that Gay marriage isn't about marraige so much as it's trying to legislate acceptance. You can't legislate acceptance. That takes time.

I voted this year, I've voted every year since I was 18. That is 9 years now. I think of it as a right. I don't know anyone else that votes in local elections. This is democracy, you get out of it what you put into it. My advice: start now. Find the things that are important for you and do whatever you can to help it. And for christsakes, lets pick a canidate this time that we like, not one that we are voting for just because he is not the other guy.

In order for this system to work, everyone has to work hard. We aren't all going to be rich. And I think that is a problem, we are conditioned from a very young age to believe that we are all going to find a truckload of $100 bills. Some of us will be working class, some of us will be intelligencia. I'm not saying that we should accept our station, I'm just saying that we shouldn't be ashamed anymore either. Kennedy said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" and that is true. These dreams are not dead, the great society can work, we can have a space program, we can dream. We just all have to be willing to be a cog in the wheel.

OK, I am tired, and needing to go bake for tomorrow at work. Have a good day, respond, and let's talk. Except theskootchlives. Fucking asshole.

Just kidding.
