Anyway, my take on your take is that games, like movies or books, are better when they aren't beating you over the head with something. Shadow of of the Colossus is like a return to a very old school of thought - that the player, through nothing more than his interaction with the game, weaves his own narrative. It's a return to a simpler, smarter, more confident way to create games. It's the kind of experience I constantly wish for: give me a world in which I can dream. It's hard to do that when you're constantly being smacked around with dialogue boxes, HUD markers, poorly-acted NPCs, and mini-games.
i assume you've heard the story that miyamoto and aonuma were watching people play shadow of the colossus at e3, and then later that day...decided to put the zelda series on hiatus for a while.
