Hmm... yes. The thing is... the thing is I don't like it. Now it may be that I'm being a real stick-in-the-mud, thinking that things were better in my day, how in the waybackthen kids respected their elders and we left our doors unlocked after a hard day in t'pit ... but that dosn't change the fact that Rule7 irritates me.
I know that a lot of work went into it, a heck of a lot. I'm sure a lot of work goes into producing the Big Brother freak show. That dosn't make Big Brother good. Big Brother irritates me. So does Rule7. The problem is... I know why Big Brother irritates me, I don't know why Rule7 irritates me.
Good board software is essential to a solid web community. It should be usuable by procatically everything, simple to use, yet have ewnough trick to keep the technophiles happy. It should also be archivable.
Web communities tend to become more anarchic than those who found them would like. One should be friendly and in touch, and level the 'firmness' of moderation by the needs of the community. Each seperate community has it's own voice, and the trick, is to found one that a large audience is comfortable with, without putting others off.
Personally I don't ... erm... yes... it still irritates me. The most irritating thing is I don't know WHY it irritates me. If I could point to the moderation and say "THATs why" then at least I'd have something solid to bitch about. The front-end is annoying (I don't want a blog, I don't want links to EOS, whatever the hell that is, I want to get straight to the forum), but not annoying enough to justify my level of botheration I feel. The graphics, the lay-out... they are kind of OK, but...
I feel like someone listening to a performance of Vide Cor Meum yet finding that one musician is off key, but annoyingly not being able to tell which one
I am in the same boat. I read the Maelfroth board and occasionally use it for research and the rest of the time I just want to smack people. Pagga was much better.
