So yesterday had good things and bad things happen. The good actually outweighs the bad, but the one bad thing was a real letdown.
One of the good things yesterday was that my station commander put me up for Soldier of the Quarter. This means I'll be going up against soldiers from other units around Heidelberg. Basically what I have to do is get dressed up in my Class A's and then answer questions from a board of high ranking NCO's. Unfortunately this means studying lots and lots of field manuals. It's a pain, but winning Soldier of the Quarter is a pretty big deal.
The other good news is that I got an email from my Series Manager. I'm a 46 Romeo, but there are other 46 series MOS's. This guy is in charge of what all the 46 series soldiers are doiNG and where they are assigned. He sent a letter out yesterday saying he needed 46 series soldiers to fill airborne slots they had open. Basically, I was getting a chance to go to airborne school and join a PSYOPS(Psychological Operations) unit. This was the best news ever.
The bad part came after I talked to my station commander about it and he told me that he would not release me from my assignment here. He says we are too short staffed, which is true. I hate getting excited for things and then getting crushed. It's no fun.
