I've founded a new hobby. Well, two new hobbies.
One, poker. Online, tournament poker. No cash table games, just being the last one standing at the table, or in the top tiers. It's a whole lot of fun!
Two, I lie to people about corporations. Normally that would make me a democrat (ba-zing!), but I've just grown so damn tired of people who pull this one on me:
"I hate Domino's Pizza. It tastes terrible, and it's run by some crazy Catholic guy."
If you've done this before, some helpful information:
1) Domino's Pizza was founded by Tom Monaghan. But the guy hasn't had a stake in the franchise for years - he left the business. Do you honestly think the guy has time to run a major market chain and micromanage a fledgling law school AND a damn town?
2) If you're bothered at what the personal politics of a business founder are, get ready to live in the woods, because quite a number of them are right wing, left wing, christian, jewish, atheist, or otherwise. Hell, if you're reading this message, you're probably directly funding no less than five companies that can be considered despicable.
3) You wouldn't know a good pizza if you tasted one. Especially if your favorite pizza is yet another national chain. Papa John's? Get the fuck away from me.
But #1 is what's gotten to me. I have heard this shit, over and over, by many different people. It's clear they heard it and never bothered to check the details out. So fuck it, count me in on the misinformation.
New lies I will swear by:
* Johnson & Johnson has personally sponsored the defense attorneys for multiple abortion clinic bombers in order to counteract the rumors that they're satanists.
* Coca-Cola relies heavily on sugar cane crops for their drinks, and as a result donates heavily to both the Republican Party, and supports right-wing militias in South American crop countries.
* Sun Myung Moon helped fund AMD as a start-up venture and currently is on the board of directors. (Fun fact: Moon actually started a deep sea fishing business that is now the premier sushi supplier in the world. It's owned by the Unification Church. This one is actually true.)
* McDonalds supports both the Iraq War and illegal immigration, because the former has allowed them to open franchises in the Middle East, and the latter statistically are far more likely to eat at McDonalds due to their income level. (This should confuse people.)
* Best Buy was founded by a bisexual who supports both gay marriage and sex ed for 8 year olds. "Best Buy" is supposed to be an in-joke with homosexuals.
* The CEO of Lowe's has a history of racism and sexism, and has openly said that the only women who walk into Lowe's "are probably working the cash register".
Oh, and also,
* Domino's Pizza is run by an outspoken Catholic.
Why buck a good trend?
