Parker comes home a while later. He's wearing new clothes, and he hopes that Jack can pay for them, because he used Jack's money.

Probably. He wouldn't care either way, he'd just find other work.

He's curled up on the couch when Parker comes in, looking at that-place-on-the-carpet.

"H'lo."

"Hey," Parker says. He goes to the kitchen and pulls out their newspaper, then drops it over the spot. Temporary solution.

Jack laughs, ruefully, pushes his hair out of his eyes and reaches out a hand for Parker.

"Come here a moment? Oh, you look very swish. I need to... would it be a good time to talk?"

"Sure," Parker says. He presses his lips against Jack's palm.

"We could die."

He wastes no time pulling Parker down.

"I mean, very easily. That would be it. One of us would be not here any more. We could just be carpet stains and we don't know how long until, not really. I mean, you sort of assume it'll be a while but it could be two years or twenty hours or twelve minutes."

"Jack. I know I'm going to die. You're going to live longer than me. You know that."

"Then why are we wasting time?"

He leans in, and kisses him, obstinately.

"It's stupid. I'm not going to be angry at you any more. It's not worth it. I could die too, I mean, if he had been inside me-- well, I would have, wouldn't I? That was a very near-death experience."

"You already died," Parker points out.

He crouches down in front of Jack and then says, softly.

"Jack, you understand I'm going to die, right?"

"I know."

He smiles at him, sadly.

"I don't want you to. But whatever time we have is best kept lovely, rather than wasted in spite. I know you will die. I just sort of figured out it could be any second rather than when you're old and tired and ready."

"I've always said I'm going to die young. There's no 401k for people like me."

He watches Jack.

"I hope not. I hope I know you when there's salt in your hair and you have laugh lines good and proper. But in case I don't, I'm not going to be hurt any more."

"Just because I'm about to die, doesn't mean you can't be pissy, Jack."

Parker is vaguely amused at the idea.

"If you want salt and laugh lines, go make love to Andrei, go find some 50 year old man who wants a young boyfriend. I don't think I can give you that."

"No," he says, sharp and stung because he was trying to be nice. This means something and he's trying to explain.

"Andrei's in love with Fire. I can't go see him any more. And he doesn't want me anyways. Parker, you're missing the point."

"That you forgive me?" Parker asks.

"Proactively, for all the other fucking stupid things that are invetably going to happen between us because neither of us are particularly sane nor good at survival. I got mugged and had my shoes stolen while you were gone, remember?"

And Belial.

Parker leans in, kissing Jack.

"I'm very good at survival."
