On my walk to work this morning I passed down a street where they were laying new asphalt. The first thing i noticed was how in the area of the block that is community garden you couldn't smell the tar, as opposed to the rest of the street. Plants really are such amazing air purifiers.

The second thing i noticed was that instead of fixing a giant pothole, the workers were laying the new road over the contours of an existing chasm- basically skim coating it rather than filling it in. I guess it wasn't in their contract. God I love New York.
