I should know better than to get too worked up anticipating the release of movies. I should know better but I don't. I'd heard dark rumblings about the less-than-warm reception given advance test screenings of "Half-Blood Prince". I'd hoped that the delayed release meant some rethinking of the story line, but I was wrong.
The actors put in an appearance, the film had a beautiful look but something was missing. In the back of my mind I heard foreboding music as the writers had Dumbledore buying a knitting magazine early on.
For devotees of HP, for those familiar with the novel on which the film is (only marginally) based, you might walk out of the theater wondering what happened to the story. You're not alone. Seemed like much of the film was given to an inconsequential, and annoying, theme involving Ron and a girl. There's a LOT of giggling by those two characters at the expense of the bulk of the novel's more interesting and relevant plot and turning points.
All the actors/characters seemed tired and ready for the whole thing to be over.
Which is how I felt about an hour into the movie.
(Note to producers: give what's left of the movie franchise back to Chris Columbus or Alfonso Cuaron.)
