This is really another front of the net neutrality battle

Time Warner was recently in the news for attempting to roll out a ridiculously expensive pricing scheme to some test areas. (The ars technica article shows that it is more than 15 times as expensive as any competition.) Fortunately, they backed down, but my friend Geoff pointed me to a page on Cox's website showing they have similar plans.

This is bad for the internet; it literally discourages its use.

Imagine having to pay a toll for every mile you drive. Would you stand for it? What other roads could you drive on? Sure, you could go to the library to use the internet, but I think you would agree that is not an acceptable solution.

Our service providers feel they can charge us an arm and a leg because the "competition" doesn't service out neighborhoods. That is monopolistic.

I consider this price-gouging to be unethical, and I wanted to make [whomever read this] aware that this is happening. Don't be surprised if other companies start trying the same thing. If your ISP tries to screw you, take a stand.
