New Job Yay

So today was my first day at MetaSwitch. The commute is an hour each way; I plan on moving to the Oakland area within a few months.

My title is "Interoperability Test Engineer" which means making sure that various devices play nicely. (even though they are all implementing open standards.)

So anyway, there were no fewer than 24 attachments in my spiffy new inbox. Lucky only 8 to 10 were forms to fill out. Even then, they were not meant to be turned in until tomorrow. So I spent some time on forms and a lot of time perusing the intranet's articles. There's also a spiffy company directory that includes links to people's managers, managees, secretaries, etc. Plus online company heirarchy... with me in it!

Also my laptop came set up with outlook and all that. I haven't used M$ Outlook (sans express) ever, and it's way cool. I right clicked on my manager's name, and it told me that he was busy at the moment. I can also look up anyone in the company and add them to my own contact list.

And then I found out what my work laptop could do. It's a dell and has the not too uncommon clit-mouse (http://xkcd.com/243/) but this one clicks when I tap it. woah!

Also, the other candidate who interviewed at the same time I did started today. I gave him a ride to the train station after work.

In other news, I read Ender's Game at last.
