There is a pair of stepper motors responsible for tilting the surface, each driven by their own controller chip and H-bridges. The motor controllers are getting input from a Spartan3E FPGA, which is at the same time talking to a touch panel to obtain the ball's position. The knobs work too, but manual control isn't too interesting. We were actually able to compensate for the frisbee without any gyroscopes or accelerometers.
