.street art exhibit at mass moca.
its been awhile since i've chronicled an adventure like this...
mass moca is in the middle of western mass...very western mass
my class "artist as a cultural worker" ate some lunch at the building which is beautiful and an old fabric factory.
matthew ritchie was the main exhibit entitled "proposition player" which was made up of painting, sculpture, installation and video...it was a representation of the history of the universe from its creation, up till now...from chemical creation, to thermodynamics, spiritual development and even voodoo...it had a seperate installation that approached the visuals of creation and composition of the universe such as string theory (which i am
OBSESSED with), tarot, and atomic collisions. it was absolutly beautiful.
the other giant exhibit was ann hamilton's "corpus" which was a GIANT installation composed of three rooms, one a massive factory floor filled with paper and a sound installation that lowered speakers from the ceiling to the ground, the second was a small room with whirling speakers playing choral chants from a womans voice, the last room looks over the main room with 30 benches and a video projector spinning with an eye projected. this was one of the most beautiful experiences i've had in a while...i think it was meant to be some sort of metaphor for meditation between the body, spirit and materials...like the paper falling from the ceiling and as you trek through it having an overwhelming feeling of peacefully walking through a snowy field. if you are not familiar with ann hamilton, get on it.
overall the field trip was amazing, it took 3 hours to get there and at a gas station our teacher locked the keys in the car, but we were able to get it unlocked from a secret spare (fyi: allllll zipcars have a secret spare key to get in the car in a small magnetic box on the back bumper!)...but then sa bachman (our prof) told us of all the times she'd been arrested and how the rnc protest was pathetic and alot of other great stuff. besides that, boston has been pretty boring minus several enjoyable people i spend time with, but hopefully next weekend i'll be able to make an escape to portland and go to a bluegrass bbq or spider outlaw party and hang out with alissa and the mounds of other ridic kids who hide there....this is the longest entry i've ever written.
