Even in contemporary cultures that believe in reincarnation, family is still important.

Equally, Matt P explained in a comment on a post that inheritance does still exist in the Empire. Its mostly linked to capital and assets rather than status and positions (though the former helps with the latter).

George Bush's son goes on to become a two term President. His Dad's connections help. His brother is a Governor.

Maybe we can talk in the field, but I am not sure I see the spectre you do
