I heard on the Writer's Almanac this morning that today is the 50th anniversary of the publishing of The Fellowship of the Ring. I haven't heard about this anywhere else, but then again how big of a deal is it to most people? I don't know. But I'm marking the occasion by posting in my livejournal (after four months of nothing) and by saying: Lord of the Rings, I salute you.
(I also liked the poem he read called "The Purpose of Time is to Prevent Everything from Happening at Once". I never thought about it that way)
