Simpsons reruns sometimes freakishly echo the news of the day. In today's episode Marge gets thrown in jail and the town has a bake sale to buy a statue of Lincoln but can't afford it because Marge isn't there to sell her rice crispy treats. So they buy a huge statue of Jimmy Carter instead. At the unveiling someone shouts that Jimmy Carter is evil, the crowd goes crazy, pulls the statue down and drags it through the streets while looting. It was bizarre.
If I hear another journalist prattle on about joyous, liberated Iraqis pulling down the big Saddam statue and dancing in the streets I'm going to puke. These were the same people that were dancing in the streets for Saddam just a couple of weeks ago with equal conviction. They were raised to kiss the ass of who ever has guns pointed at them. I don't have a good feeling about all this.
