The Scars of Evolution by Elaine Morgan.

Just finished this book, and believe our ancestors, at some during their evolution, evolved in an aquatic enviroment. Here is a bit that had me uncontrollably laughing(though it seems sort of trivial when I think about it ( Read more... )

I was a little dubious at first about the aquatic theory. However, she stresses at some point that during a continental drift(Asia plate rubbing off the African plate, if I remember correctly) one of our ancestors got stuck on an island, which was a mostly covered in water, causing us to wade through streams and rivers all the time, thus accounting for the hair loss - if a species regresses to a water enviroment it loses its hair and developes a skin more akin to a sea animal, which has fat underneath for insulation.

I don't want to ruin it for you. Basically all the problems we're having now - back trouble, still births, cot deaths etc - is basically a kind of evolutionary hang-over, if you will. *fixes monocle*

Infact, there is s a bit when she talks about Orangutans and how they mate: the male grabs the female, which begins to scream, but realising that the males just wants to breed, the female calms down - and here is the amusing part(they witnessed this happening) - the female was being screwed by the male, and the female was completely indifferent to what was happening, apparently just hanging from a tree plucking fruit and rolling its eyes, looking bored.

I was in tears for about 10 minutes before I was asked to calm down.
