Testing...1, 2...

I'm still getting used to this place. It's been a couple of days, and I've been reading and looking around, but I haven't written anything yet, so here goes-

I've been staying in the "new kid on the block" housing, with Justice. He keeps giving me his money and asking me to grab him food. It's not too bad, and I get to wander ( Read more... )

I have rapidly come to appreciate that you find other people considerably more interesting than yourself. Is it possible, however, that you could confine yourself to discussing your own affairs when broadcasting them to the world at large?

Yeah, yeah. I'll try to remember that from now on.

[And Justice, yes you are only across the room, and that's a sheet of paper ripped out, crumpled up, and tossed at you]

[And that's a rather smug smirk in return THX]

Shouldn't you be looking for a JOB, rather than wasting your time with failed origami?

I am looking. I'm just taking a little longer than you.

...and it wasn't failed. That was a nice origami rock.

How difficult can it be, considering that you spend most of the day NOT here? Perhaps there is a position available as a punching bag for girls with wings.

... and I suggest that you not apply to be a journal maker, in that case.

I figured you didn't mind since I was grabbing you food while I was out. Tomorrow, you can go.

Hey, it's harder work than it looks. Maybe you should try it.

I wasn't thinking about that one. ...I have an idea, but I need to get used to this place before I try it.

I... have to go, actually. I have been invited to an interview.

[You may assume he is looking less than thrilled about that]

I find myself entirely lacking in enthusiasm for being physically abused by a teenage girl. And I am entirely unsure if it is advisable for you to broadcast your peculiarities in that area.

"This place" is a glass sphere in a tree. Can I assume this means you will never find work?

So are you going to

[And the writing stops abruptly as he sets down his pen, walking across the room]

"No chance you want to grab me something on the way back?"

[He smiles a bit]

"I just need to figure this place out a bit, that's all. ...I was thinking of maybe seeing if Iris needed any help."

[And he smiles a bit, nervously scratching at his scalp for a moment]

[He looks up when the writing stops, putting his own pen down on the bunk next to him and closing the journal.]

Something? You mean - such as a job?

[And there's a raised eyebrow as he looks up at Truth, although not a great deal of humour to it.]

Ah. Iris.

[He does smile a little at that, sitting up and swinging his legs off the bed.]

You could hardly make a worse job of it.

Yeah, very funny, Justice.

[He shook his head]

Hey, she was trying. It was just a little stressful on her, that's all.

[He thinks for a minute]

...so what are you interviewing for?

It wasn't a joke. Unless you intend to remain living here until they throw you out onto the street - or branch, or whatever the equivalent is in this Godforsaken place.

[And the smile lingers for a while as he watches Truth's face, then he looks down with a chuckle.]

And I take it that she's the reason you find that particular employment appealing?

[Then he shrugs, not looking up at Truth and instead playing with the journal that is still in his hand.]

It would appear that the medical unit needs an administrator.

Shit. You know I'm bad with that. misterbluesky October 8 2008, 01:45:51 UTC
[There's a soft laugh]

Maybe I'll just crash with you.

No, not really. I just...I don't know. I guess I just want to help people.

[He nodded]

Yeah, that sounds like something you'd be good at.

...do you know if they need any other help?

Yeah. Check's in the Post, Right? extantlaw October 8 2008, 02:05:12 UTC
If that's some kind of joke, Truth, it's hardly the funniest I have heard since we arrived.

[His tone is a little sharper than he intended, and there's a small frown at himself as he tosses the black leather journal aside and pinches the bridge of his nose between thumb and forefinger, briefly.]

If it appeals to you, although God knows why, then apply. I assume they are hiring?

[And he looks down at his hands, nails perfectly manicured and skin soft enough to betray him as someone who has never had cause to use his hands for manual work.]

I hope it will suit me.

And I have no idea. Why can't you simply ask them?

But of course. Where else would it be? Not...still in my checkbook, certainly. >>! misterbluesky October 8 2008, 02:22:48 UTC
No, I'm serious. It could work...and it makes sense. ...but if you don't want to, that's fine.

I don't know. I was going to ask around...see if I could talk to Iris and find out and all.

[He smiles a bit]

You'll do fine.

Maybe I will. [A pointed look, then, and his expression softens after a few moments]

...are you feeling alright?

It makes sense for me to agree to share a room with you because you don't have a job?

This is obviously some localised usage of the word "sense" that I have not been made aware of.

[There's a sceptical look at Truth to accompany the words, and he taps his temple with a finger.]

Please, do explain.

[He frowns quickly at the look from Truth, picking up the journal again and weighing it in his hand. He's weighing his thoughts too, looking off to the side, away from the other man. It's a while before he says anything, and then there's the briefest shake of the head and a small sigh.]

I'm perfectly fine.

[he rests his hands on his chin, running a few fingers across his stubble in thought]

Well, I was just thinking that...I mean, since we're new and all, it might not be a bad idea to stick together until we got this place figured out better, that's all.

That's good. I was getting a little worried. [There's a shrug as he looks away for a moment]
