((That familiar voice--familiar in sound, but perhaps not in tone. Sounding lost this time, though he'll try to hide it, perhaps, and more than a little uncertain about how to use the Network device he found in his pocket...))
((Momentary fumbling. The sounds of the City in the background.))

I've spent the day circling this place, and still no answers. I've found myself suddenly in unfamiliar locales before, but this--? This place can't be in London.

At least I know how to use this device now. Stranger that I found it in my pocket, but it's something between a telephone and a typewriter. And more than a little interesting to read, certainly.

There are a handful of possibilities, then, and none of them are particularly appealing to say the least.

It's a very simple place: a round court with a carousel in the center. What's that round court in Rome? Circus Maximus--and that is ironic to be sure. From there, the city--unlike any I've ever seen before.

Am I hallucinating? I don't feel ill--poisoned, I mean. Something injected under the skin after unconsciouness has set in? That Doctor could do that. But I have no memory of falling unconscious.

I could be dreaming, I suppose. I've never had a dream seem so sensible before, though.

Well, more or less sensible.

But then how on Earth could I be asleep? Where am I sleeping?--I should like to know. I remember I woke up in that girl's bed--and she was none too pleased, but she was a light sleeper, and I was only taking my leave of her. I ran out into the street, and then I saw the lights--

--from that carousel.

((A long pause))

I suppose I could be dead as well. I've never really given much thought to what transpires after one dies.

--Why would I be dead? That's far too simple. Wouldn't my father they find it far more interesting to see how far they could trap me in a maze like this? Play another game of divide-and-conquer? Killing me was always a possibility--

--it's far too soon for that. There's too much--

I rather like the idea that I'm only dreaming. I've survived worse nightmares in my life.

Kidnapped then, though that would be a new trick for them. Why, though, I'm not sure. There's more to this than there appears.

Merry had best be safe. If I'm here, where is she? Riff will have her, of course, at home, where I ought to have been hours ago. Likely they're searching for me now.

This ticking is getting tiresome. If I sit still enough I can make my heartbeat fit into the rhythm. That makes it more bearable.

So where am I, since it doesn't seem to be London? And what is the reason for that carousel?

((Momentary fumbling with the device, still uncertain.))

[ooc: Happy Poly Anniversary to me. It's two years with Cain for me as of today. So, for a nice taste of irony, he's gone "Back to the Start" for the curse today. In all honesty, I feel like I botched my real entrance back in the day, so here's an imaginary re-set. Happy anniversary to me and I hope for many more years.]
