[Cain feels obliged to at least show his face at the cafe from time to time, despite everything else he has to endure at the moment. It's another place to gather information, perhaps. It's at least something.

He's set himself up at one of the tables for a moment, looking over some papers, and brooding.

The place is decorated twice over--once as intended and then again with sprouting greenery. How festive. None of it suits Cain's mood.]

I didn't entirely think you did.

[Not that he objects to being thanked in such a way... Not that he'll admit to that either.]

But it's no trouble for me at all. I'd rather the Welcome Centre be attended to, if it can be. There wasn't such a thing when I arrived and I should have been glad of it.

[Such an ordinary conversation after such an act. Really.]

Yes, I've crossed paths with a few people like that before. It's rather surprising to encounter such a thing, to find someone who isn't so surprised by finding himself in another world. It's far from commonplace, though, as you said.
