Just got back from a fantastic Thanksgiving break about an hour ago. What made it so fantastic you ask? Well, come closer and I will tell you....
I got home Thursday night after a super fun 9 hour drive back from school. We made good time despite the fact that most of the roads in the UP were covered in packed down snow.
Friday my Mom, Carrie, Mrs. Shemanski, Tom, Marjie, and Erik all went to see Elton John. The concert was great. His voice still sounded great although he didn't try to hit the high notes. His piano playing was as good as ever and he was backed by a hilarious band including a mini gospel choir section. The trip to and from Ohio was long, but it was really worth it. It was a lot of fun, and a good way to hang out with Carrie and Erik again. Its nice, although I barely ever get to come home to visit, it is like we just pick up from where we left off.
Lets see, I don't really remember what I did Saturday. I think I went to the store with my mom to pick up food and stuff for the upcoming week. I thought something fun happened Saturday night, but I don't remember.
Sunday my Mom and I were supposed to play some music at the church, but since my dad decided to go hunting up north that weekend and he really wanted to see us, we had to postpone it.
Monday I got to have my teeth cleaned at the dentist. It has been a while since I never get to come home, and my teeth felt all sparkly clean afterwards. Unfortunately the x-rays showed that I have to get my wisdom teeth removed sometime soon since they are coming in completely perpendicular to my molars. The
x-ray also showed that (gasp!) I had a cavity. While this may not be a big deal to most people, it was to me because it was my first one!! So I was pretty sad about that because I always prided myself on having a cavity-free mouth. I got it filled on friday and it actually hurt less than my teeth cleaning.
Tuesday my brother came homewhich was great because It really felt weird being home and not having him there. Sean called me earlier that morning and decided to go senior skip day-ing and we went out to guitar center. He decided on a whim that he wanted a guitar, however he didn't end up buying anything.
I'm not sure what I did wednesday, but it flew by.
Thursday we cleaned up for Thanksgiving, I made a delicious sourdough bread stuffing that I learned how to make on the food network (which is secretly becoming one of my favorite channels), and I tried to fix my ipod while listening to Jethro Tull on vinyl. My ipod is still not working and I tried following the steps on the apple website to fix it, so if anyone knows how to fix an ipod that is not communicating with itunes, let me know. Anyway, later that night , I got to see a lot of my cousins at Grandma Rose's and I also won $9 playing poker against them. The big winner that night was Daniel who took home $16 in winnings. Lucky him.
Friday, after I got my filling, we went to Jethro Tull at the Detroit Opera House. The music awesome and they also had a guest violinist who was really good. They played a lot of classical music with the violinist and some flute and violing duets. It was really quite different than what I was expecting. They played a lot off of Aqualung which was kind of dissapointing because I wanted to hear some stuff off of their other albums, but I guess that is just a problem of having too many good songs to play. Aqualung really is a fantastic album, so there really isn't any reason that they shouldn't have played the whole thing. They played a long show consisting of two hour and a half sessions with a 20 minute intermission. My only real complaint with the wholw show was that I don't like Ian Anderson's aging voice. It just doesn't have the energy it used to. But hey, there's nothing we can do about that is there? He more than made up for it with his dancing, storytelling, and excellent flute/guitar playing.
Saturday went by the fastest of all the days. Blake and I bought new tennis shoes and we took Daniel to Best Buy where he bought Guitar Hero. I almost played through the entire career mode on medium before meeting up with Carrie and Erik to film this year's Christmas greeting. I had my doubts at first at how it was going to turn out, but when we reviewed what we had filmed, I think we are going to be happy with the results. Look for the greeting soon, Carrie is currently editing it together.
Well, that was my break. Some of it explained to every last boring detail. I just felt like writing a lot today for some reason. Maybe just trying to keep my mind off of finals. It is always tough to come back to school after Thanksgiving break since all I have to look forward to are finals and then another long drive home. See everybody in 2 weeks and a couple of days.
P.S. I am not sure I like the new Darkness single, but the rest of the album sounds like a lot of fun.
