Meet the Steves
SUMMERTIME PT. 2
So a while back, Erik and I thought to ourselves, "You know who's awesome? Yeah, Stephen Malkmus." Then, this year he's pretty much coming to St. Andrews. So Erik and I are like, "Lets go see him!" We get to St. Andrews and are walking around and we are both thinking how cool that would be if we got to meet SM. So I say "lets go find Steve." and Erik is all like "I don't think he'll just be walking around out here." But we walk around anyway and decide to check out the merch table. I'm thinking to myself, "hey, these are some pretty cool shirts." and then Erik spots a tall skinny Stephen Malkmus-looking fellow, and guess what! It's him! So we go shake his hand and we really don't know what to say, and he tells us to "stay cool." We were really excited but then he elaborated and let us know he was talking about the temperature. We still think he called us cool though.

Then later in the summer, Carrie, Erik, Tom and I all attended Stephen Page's cd release concert at the Borders in Ann Arbor. It was a pretty good show and he also managed to play some BNL favorites as well as his new stuff. After the show there was plenty of autographing going on and we got to meet him. He seemed like someone we would be friends with, but I think Tom creeped him out a little bit with his poem. I don't think Steve quite knew if it was a joke or not even though we were all laughing hysterically. Tom somehow managed to deliver it completely deadpan and creepy-like as pictured below:
