Cheesy nibble

I've written about my exploits buying lunch in Subway before. But today things got a little bit weird.

The woman who was preparing my sandwich -- who I think is actually the boss there -- had just finished putting the slices of my preferred pepperjack cheese onto the bread when she started waving an extra slice of cheese over the counter at me. Of course, when I say 'a slice of cheese' here I am referring to an orange processed rectangle that has more in common with a sheet of plastic tarpaulin than it does actual cheese. But this was being waved at me nonetheless.

"Take it!" the boss woman told me. So I did, although I can't say I wasn't confused by this unusual development.

"What's this for?" I said.

"Eat it!" the woman then instructed, and I couldn't help but think how much I'd have preferred it if this slice of cheese had have been surrounded by some bread like all the other slices of cheese that I was purchasing.

I don't know if I'm going to go into the local Subway again. It's all getting a bit too strange in there. However, that's got nothing at all to do with today's Deal or No Deal, in which a young woman named Chloe won £12,000 worth of cheese. Although I think she actually took the cash equivalent. And I don't think she had an option to take cheese instead anyway.
