One blog in the grave

Those of you unfortunate enough to have been following my Twitter feed this afternoon would have seen me getting into a bit of a strop about the fact that Deal or No Deal today was taken out of its regular 4pm slot and moved later, all because of some post-Olympic bash that took place in London. Of course I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek, although looking back it's possible that tongue-in-cheek-ness didn't come across as well as I intended it to. However, it was a bit inconvenient.

You see, I had a new tutoring client that I was seeing for the first time and I'd arranged to go round to their place at 5.30pm. This time was carefully chosen so it wouldn't clash with people opening boxes on Channel 4. But the later start for the programme meant that it did clash.

The thing that got me though was the fact that there wasn't even any sport taking place! What I saw at 4pm was a few people in London looking slightly bored and half-heartedly clapping their hands while the Pet Shop Boys trotted out some songs from 25 years ago. And then David Cameron came out and made a speech about how sport is pretty good, or something. It was hardly a cultural landmark.

Thankfully I managed to watch Aleks take an inspired deal for £10,000 later on catch-up, so I suppose it all worked out okay. (And, for the record, I genuinely have no problem with the fact that my favourite programme got shifted around. Any irritation I might have felt has been exaggerated here for entertainment purposes.)
