I went back to my place of employment today, in preparation for my new classes starting on Monday. And one of the first things they wanted to do was take my photograph.
I suppose their reasoning is sensible enough. With lots of new students arriving, having a mugshot of each of the teachers prominently displayed on a notice board is going to be quite useful, allowing these new students to get to know who's who more quickly. But the obvious downside is that one of those mugshots is going to feature my ugly face looking at me every day when I arrive, so I really needed to make sure that it was a picture I was at least reasonably happy with.
Unfortunately, the picture they'd found of me from their archives made me look like some sort of villian from Crimewatch. In fact, I'd probably have preferred an actual police photo-fit picture of me to that. (Not that there exists such a thing, naturally.) My hair was lank and hanging limply in front of my two staring eyes that seemed to convey a menacing I'm-going-to-dismember-you-shortly kind of a look.
So I insisted they take a more up-to-date picture of me, despite the fact that I hadn't prepared for such a thing. I even tried to smile for it too, although that did make me look slightly manic. However, it was an improvement on the axe murderer look so that's what students will see from next week, whether they like it or not. Which they probably won't.
Meanwhile, Raj played a pretty strong game of Deal or No Deal today, getting herself 22 grand.
