Someone up there wanted me to know that I should get my Live Performance Report for Drama done in good time next semester.
Take my advice: Don't go to see "Bye, Bye Birdie" when you have been listening to Sondheim and Wicked over the past weeks. The shift from clever to vapid will give you whiplash. Better yet, avoid seeing the musical hereafter reffered to as BBB at all.
BBB is the Macbeth Did It of musicals, lurching towards an unsatisfactory resolution through pointless and random events, and dialogue of the distinctly poor quality. Johnny Depp, Laurence Olivier, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, and Christopher Lee combined could not have transcended the vacuousness of the script.
The Good:
*The Jewish mother laying guilt trips on her son
*The angry, overwrought father who is slightly more shocked by the word 'puberty' than being compared to Mussolini
*The little boy who acted as the Randomn Dwarf to the above's Piangi, inexplicably singing along as the adults wonder "What's the Matter With Kids Today?"
Other than that? Gag.
