The temptation to make a dead cat joke somewhere in the mainpage info or in the piece itself was way, way too strong.
This piece has gone through CRAZY changes and three rewrites. I originally intended it as an over-the-top comedy. When I wrote it, it came out way too dark. So I had another go at it. While it came out too long, it came out much less emo and much more, well, timey-wimey ball.
Admittedly, the notion of "starting over" led me to rather dark places. The (spoilerish) message, which was one of those lines that I fell in love with but couldn't use anywhere was
there's no need for supernatural fate because personality is destiny. Attempts at starting over tend towards failure simply because you are who you are, and you bring your whole sort of problems with you as part of yourself wherever you may roam.
