"I think it is bullshit I just see it as paying for friends"- This is by far the most commonly used line when describing why a person doesn't like fraternities/sororities. First off, you're in drama, no? When you're a part of drama, you pay- not with money, but rather in blood/sweat/tears over your performances; greeks have to pay for their membership due to insurance (which is expensive), rush parties (which, Chelsea, are bone dry of alcohol, national rules), and for supplies for events such as homecoming.

Also, Erika makes a good point- no offense Biggie, but you're still in high school. You've not stepped into college yet as a student, so how would you know how it is? I mean, when I was in high school, I didn't like fraternities either, and now I'm a (damn proud) brother of Sigma Alpha Mu.

Moreover, about the whole paying thing; I remember that you used to hang around with the Fijis (with Greg, I know) and went to a toga party. Who do you think paid for that whole event? That's right- the brothers of Phi Gamma Delta, who happen to pay more than the average fraternity (well, about the same as Pike now that they have a house too) because they have a house and need to maintain it... We greeks don't pay for friends- we invest money into an organization that gives so much more back to us... people who will back us up until the day we die and even after that, they'll carry our bodies to the grave; a chance to get great hookups (i.e., one of my brothers is a car parts wholesaler and i'm getting a $2,000 bodykit for roughly $400 bucks); women; and yes, massive amounts of mindless fun (in moderation, because if not, the fraternity gets kicked off campus).

Bottom line? You should see what the greek life is all about, first-hand. I suggest that when you graduate and come to college, show up to some rush events and check out the scene for yourself. If you still dislike it, go on and diss it... at least you'll have tried it.

Theater is nothing like frats i pay with blood and sweat yes. but it is also my major and it is preparing me for my furture in the career i want to persue. i am learning valuable skills, not how to kiss someones ass!! thats the truth. Remember the old saying "friends don't come cheap" that doesn't mean paying well i guess you all are giving that a new meaning!
