Cool Beans!

Today, while getting ready to leave for work, I turned on the TV. It was left on Showcase days before. What do I see but Ms. Carrie-Anne Moss walking with an Egyptian ivory handled cane I painted in a movie I worked on ages ago. I'd forgotten I painted all those cane handles. One was a soft foam special effects one used to whack another actor to death with, the rest were cast lead, I believe.

Then the scene changed and Ms. Moss' character walked through a graveyard at night with John Cullum's character. In the daytime scene on a full size movie screen, one can read my name on a headstone if one were looking for it. On even a large screen TV, you'd be hard pressed to pick any names out.

It was quite a treat to see this old movie and brought back memories of seeing my name, eight feet wide, scrolling up a movie screen in a dark theatre* (four times, no less; I did everything from working in the producer's office, fanagling Green Cards and work permits through weekend-closed ACTRA offices -I had to track down the workers at their homes a Province over, to sculpting 7 foot statues, to painting fine portraits, to painting plaster and real gold friezes and concrete floors to look tiled). Not much compares to that kind of thrill of seeing your name representing the months or years of work you did on the film.

Damn it. I'm going to see that again, with a new movie. I promise you I will.

it was the either the last feature film shown at the Showcase Grande before they closed, or at least one of the last. Of course, they just opened The Grande again this week as a live stage house.
