eBay snipers suck eggs....

Today, ~1pm - Ian decides that his baby girl should have a copy of a dark but charming children's book by Betsy James Wyeth with illustrations by her son, Jamie Wyeth (yes, I know you were wondering, they ARE in fact the daughter-in-law and grandson, respectively, of N.C. Wyeth.

By 1:30pm, at $19.99 + s/h I am the sole and therefore winning bidder on a mint copy of said dark/charming book about a dog who wandered into town and decided to stay for a while.

Life goes on, and I come back to check, but, like a fool, I did this ten minutes after the auction had ended.

Turns out it wouldn't have mattered. The sniper put in their bid in the last seconds of the auction, stoping me from changing my mind and raising my high bid. In fact, they were so close to the end time, the notice that I had lost the auction came a full minute before the notice that I was no longer the high bidder.

I know, I know, I should have set my real highest bid in right from the get go, if I was not willing to put that amount in at 1:30pm, why should I complain that someone got it for slightly more than that at 7:48pm, but still.... the whole concept of eSniping just pisses me off.

Being the inquisitive person that I am, I quickly saw that the winner is.... a book reseller. I have to believe that there was never any intent on sharing the highs and lows found in this story with pigs, pirates, and trains, masqurades and plots... they want to turn it for a profit.

But you know what? While I had checked Powells prior to putting in a bid on the book, and came up with nothing, I checked again after my loss, and found there was now a copy in stock! And for a mere $19.99!

I quickly put that in my cart, added Kage's latest Company novel, and hey, presto, I win so badly right now.

And Heroes is now on, so I am done here.
