As a person who thinks voting in a democracy should involve more than one option, I have been disappointed by the California system, particularly for the House of Representatives. The last time around, a Republican didn't even run. I know that he'll get whomped, but the Republican party really destroyed my illusion of choice by not running.
So I decided to vote in the Democratic primary, since clearly that is where the real race be run in such a Democrat dominated district.
But, in the Democratic primary, there is still only one option for the House. Actually, there is only one option for everything, except the 'Party Central Committee', where I get to vote for 7 of the 9 choices.(hmmm, borg involvement?) Previously, I thought Russia's form of democracy was a sham, but if the only choice I have is to choosing a party's committee, maybe we're not that different after all.
The moral of the story is that we need reasonable(or even random) redistricting in California. Then a Republican will run, lose, and restore my illusion of choice.
